About ESA documentation
Documentation from a licensed clinician can support a request to keep your animal with you in housing that limits pets. The clinician provides it after an independent evaluation:
- Issued only when clinically appropriate
- Housing providers assess each request
- Acceptance and fee waivers are not guaranteed
- Discuss disclosure questions with your clinician

Could an ESA evaluation be right for you?
If your animal helps you manage day-to-day life, an evaluation may be right for you. A licensed clinician makes the determination; a diagnosis alone does not establish eligibility. Concerns an evaluation may involve:
- • Anxiety
- • Depression
- • PTSD
- • Panic disorder
- • Phobias
- • Chronic stress
- • Adjustment disorder
A real clinician. An independent decision.
Your ESA evaluation isn’t decided by an algorithm, a questionnaire, or your payment.
A licensed clinician independently evaluates your individual circumstances and determines whether ESA documentation is clinically appropriate. Intake and appointments take place in SimplePractice.
You pay for access to a professional evaluation, not a guaranteed outcome.

Your clinician provides a letter only when it’s clinically appropriate. If they can’t support an ESA for your case, no letter is issued.

$159 for a decision within 2–3 business days, $199 within 24 hours. Refund requests are available within 30 days of purchase. Payment does not guarantee documentation or a housing outcome.
Still have questions?
No. You pay once per evaluation: $159 for a decision within 2–3 business days, or $199 within 24 hours. That covers up to two pets on the same letter; a third or fourth pet is $59 each. Nothing renews. Refunds can be requested within 30 days of purchase; see the Terms.
Landlord verification is included. Your letter names the clinician, their Texas license number and a clinic contact, and the clinician answers a landlord’s or screening service’s verification request within 2 business days at no extra charge. If a landlord rejects the letter within 60 days of issue and the clinician’s verification does not resolve it, you receive a full refund. You do not have to file a HUD complaint first. Refunds are also available within 30 days of purchase for any reason.
Documentation may support a request for a housing accommodation. Outcomes depend on applicable law and the circumstances; Amu does not guarantee acceptance or fee waivers.
After payment you complete intake and request an appointment in SimplePractice, where you see the clinician’s available times before you book, so you know the wait before committing to a date. Timing depends on clinician availability, your evaluation and applicable state requirements. A letter or delivery date is not guaranteed.
No ESA letter is issued. You can request a refund within 30 days of your purchase, whether or not your appointment has taken place: the clinician’s decision does not change that window. Email hello@amu.pet to request it. If your first available appointment is later than 30 days after purchase, contact hello@amu.pet before the window ends. A screening result is not a clinical approval.
Amu currently offers this service to adults 18 and older in Texas with dogs or cats, subject to clinician availability. Other states can join the availability waitlist.
Clinical intake, appointments and any clinician-issued ESA letter are handled through SimplePractice. Amu stores your account, pet profile, billing records, preliminary screening result and whether a clinician has issued a letter. Health answers are processed in your browser; clinical messages and documents stay in SimplePractice. Please read the privacy policy before submitting information to Amu; the Amu screening and account are separate from your clinician’s records.
One clinical evaluation at the turnaround you choose, landlord verification, and a letter for every pet on the evaluation when the clinician finds it appropriate. After payment, complete clinical intake and request an appointment in SimplePractice. Payment covers one evaluation and every pet listed on it. A future reassessment is a separate one-time payment.
One evaluation covers your household: up to two pets are included in the price, and a third or fourth pet is $59 each, up to four pets on one letter. The clinician documents each animal separately — that is what landlords and screening services check — in the same consult. Add pets at checkout, or email hello@amu.pet for a larger household.
No. A diagnosis, symptom checklist or preliminary screening cannot determine an individual’s need for ESA documentation. The clinician decides after an independent evaluation.
An ESA letter does not grant service-animal status or airline access. Check the airline’s current pet policy before booking travel.
